Rosa Lëtzebuerg, Luxembourg's national LGBTIQ+ organization, wishes to express its deep concern and firm condemnation regarding the recent repressive measures taken by the Turkish government against civil society, LGBTIQ+ activists and organizations, as well as human rights defenders and journalists in Türkiye.
According to reports, notably from the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA), LGBTIQ+ organizations and activists have recently been subjected to coordinated operations, searches, arrests, and pre-trial detentions. In addition, severe digital restrictions—including the blocking of websites and social media accounts—have been imposed to muzzle civil society. For Rosa Lëtzebuerg, these actions constitute a direct attack on fundamental freedoms, particularly freedom of expression, association, peaceful assembly, and press freedom. Criminalization, intimidation, and the deprivation of liberty can in no way be accepted as a legitimate response to work advancing equality and human rights.
Given the severity and urgency of the situation, Rosa Lëtzebuerg has initiated direct diplomatic action. The organization sent an official letter to the Ambassador of Türkiye to Luxembourg as well as to Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Xavier Bettel, demanding respect for fundamental rights and calling for firm diplomatic intervention.
Rosa Lëtzebuerg reaffirms its total support for all individuals and organizations that continue to fight in Türkiye for freedom, equality, and the right to live openly and safely.
